World Languages at Howard

Recently, several members of the Howard World Language department were featured in a promotional video made by HCPSS. See if you can spot Spanish teacher Tyler Petrini, ASL teacher Megan Lazzor, and 2015 World Language Teacher of the Year Jennifer Borgerding!

Why take a world language? Here’s a nice description of Howard’s world language program from Instructional Team Leader Julia Greiwe-Martinez:

Here at Howard High School we offer five different World Languages. Along with the popular languages of Spanish and French, there are many German, Latin and ASL class offerings. Students can explore culture and language in a variety of ways, including interpersonal, interpretive and presentational modes of communication in a vibrant and lively atmosphere. Stimulating student-centered classes attend to diverse learning styles and multiple intelligences. Our emphasis is on assisting students become global citizens on their path to proficiency, moving from novice into intermediate and advanced skills for communication.
I’ve had a lot of folks asking me about offering Chinese at Howard next year. What do you think? Let me know in the comments section or tweet me @PrincipalNovak!
