The introductions continue…today’s post is written by Mr. Castro, another new member of the administrative team:
I first came to Howard High School in 1975 to play my first varsity football game. Howard happened to have a nationally recognized 54 game winning streak, we lost 42-0. 40 years later, I am returning as an Assistant Principal. I am looking for a better experience since my last visit.
I graduated from Maryland, played football and baseball there. I got cut from the Dallas Cowboys and Seattle Seahawks, played in the USFL and Arena Football leagues. I did not know what I wanted to do with my life so I began to substitute teach and coach football at my high school, Southern in Anne Arundel County. I saw a need for assisting students with attending college, so I went back to school and got my Masters in Counseling from Bowie State.
I was a Guidance Counselor, football and baseball coach at High Point High School in Prince Georges County. I retired from coaching after 20 years and went into Administration. I was an Assistant Principal at Oakland Mills High School the last 6 years. I am also an avid collector of vintage and antique items that I buy, sell and hold onto for a while.
I have seen the positive impact that education has had on student’s lives and I want to assist students with valuing all that comes from the high school experience. I look forward to meeting the Howard High School community and contributing to a successful school year.
